Due to its rarity, Oudh is more expensive than gold. This infected wood is not a traditional ingredient in Western perfume industry. However, Yves Saint Laurent was the first one to bet on such particular ingredient in 2002 for a larger audience. Many products claim oudh today and at all price levels. Natural and synthetic substitutes in lieu of the extra-expensive, ultra-rare ingredient are often used.
