To increase ingredient transparency for customers and accurately determine the naturality and biodegradability of fragrances according to ISO16128 and OECD’s criteria.

Key benefits

– Naturality certificate according to ISO16128 criteria

– Biodegradability certificate according to OECD’s criteria

– Regulatory compliance

– Creativity flexibility

Iberchem
A Digital Innovation to increase ingredient transparency

VITA is the result of an extensive project designed to effectively calculate and analyse the naturality and biodegradability of fragrances according to ISO16128 and OCDE’S criteria. Utilising SAP technology and complex coding, the digital tool enables the naturality and biodegradability of fragrances to be calculated with great accuracy. As a result, VITA ensures precision as Iberchem accelerates natural and biodegradable scent creation in accordance with nature-conscious consumer demands.

VITA is an excellent addition to the many efforts Iberchem has launched over the past to advance the creation of natural and sustainable fragrances. Alongside VITA, Iberchem’s Green Future seal has made it easier to identify sustainable fragrance solutions meaning Iberchem offers a wide range of tailor-made options for all sectors and applications. ISO 16128 and OECD'S criteria

ISO 16128 and OECD testing guidelines are not certifications but internationally recognized frameworks used by Iberchem to evaluate the naturality and biodegradability of fragrances. Based on these methodologies, Iberchem provides customers with internal certificates reporting the relevant calculation and test results.

ISO 16128 criteria

ISO 16128 provides guidelines for defining and calculating the natural, natural origin, organic and organic origin content of cosmetic ingredients and formulations. The standard establishes a harmonized approach for assessing ingredient origin and determining naturality indexes, helping improve transparency and consistency across the cosmetics industry.

OECD’s criteria

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has established internationally recognized testing guidelines for evaluating biodegradability. The OECD 301 series comprises screening tests designed to assess the readily biodegradability of substances under standardized conditions.

According to these test methods, a substance is typically considered readily biodegradable when it achieves at least 60% biodegradation within a 28-day test period, in accordance with the criteria of the specific method applied. These guidelines provide a consistent and science-based framework for assessing the environmental degradation of fragrance ingredients and formulations.
