Each year, as winter fades and spring begins to unfold, the fields of Cieza, in the region of Murcia, transform into a breathtaking landscape of soft pink and white blossoms.

This extraordinary phenomenon, renowned for its beauty across Spain, is more than a seasonal event: it is a celebration of nature connected to the origins of Iberchem. We explore it further with Sandra Lucas: one of our perfumers, born in Cieza, deeply rooted in the company’s heritage.

The Blooming Season of Stone Fruits in Cieza

Cieza, a town located in the region of Murcia, is known for its intensive cultivation of stone fruits, especially peaches, followed by nectarines, flat peaches, and plums. Each type of fruit produces blossoms in different colors, from deep fuchsia to pure white, transforming the orchards into a visually striking landscape during spring.

Every year, these fields attract attention for both their scale and beauty. The blooming season is a major event for local tourism and a source of inspiration for industries like perfumery, highlighting the connection between the region’s natural environment and its cultural identity.

Capturing the Scent of Peach and Peach Blossom

The scent of peach blossoms is subtle and delicate, very different from the sweet aroma of the fruit. In perfumery, it is often used symbolically rather than extracted directly. Walking through the flowering fields provides inspiration and a clear understanding of the flower’s character.

To capture the delicate aroma of peach blossoms, perfumers rely on accords: carefully crafted blends of light, delicate, and playful floral notes that express the flower’s character without overwhelming it, unlike more intense flowers such as rose, jasmine, or tuberose.

On the other hand, the peach itself offers a more realistic and expressive scent. As a fruity note, it brings lactonic, sweet, and slightly powdery nuances, creating a profile that is richer and more textured than that of the blossom. Its creamy, velvety character adds depth and roundness to a fragrance composition.

From Field to Fragrance

Blooming marks the arrival of spring, bringing with it the vitality of the sun, energy, and a sense of renewal. In perfumery, working with these natural materials means translating these sensations conceptually into fragrance.

By studying the subtle aromas, textures, and seasonal characteristics of the blossoms, perfumers create scents that reflect the essence of spring.
