Indonesia: Rich in perfumery ingredients

Indonesia, a tropical paradise in Southeast Asia, is home to some of the most exotic and precious ingredients in the world of perfumery. With unrivalled biodiversity and a rich cultural tradition, this archipelago offers a selection of unique essences that transform fragrances into true works of art.

Patchouli is a classic Indonesian ingredient, known for its deep, earthy aroma that adds warmth and sophistication to any fragrance. Indonesia stands as the main producer of Patchouli oil, accounting for more than 80% of the total global supply.

Ylang-ylang offers an exotic and floral touch that transports the senses to a state of relaxation and serenity. Indonesian sandalwood, with its soft, creamy, and enveloping profile, is ideal for woody and oriental fragrances, adding a rich and inviting nuance.

Added to these ingredients is benzoin, a balsamic resin that delivers sweet, warm vanilla and caramel notes, perfect for oriental and gourmand compositions. In addition, Indonesian clove brings a spicy, warm, and slightly sweet aroma that adds character and depth to any fragrance.

Beauty in diversity

Indonesia is often described as the most populous economy in Southeast Asia with increasing market opportunities. According to Statista, growth of up to 6.5% is expected in the beauty and personal care products market in 2025. In terms of market segments, personal care is the largest, followed by skincare, cosmetics, and fragrances.

The current trend for Indonesians is to embrace their diverse beauty regardless of skin colour, while also preferring Halal cosmetics.

Indonesia is a country with a predominantly Muslim population – approximately 85% – which has shaped the country’s culture and traditions. The markets are distinctive in that they emphasise Halal product certification, in alignment with Islamic law. This is what makes the country so unique, as it offers us opportunities for continued expansion and the development of our cultural interests on a global scale.
