The Fragrance, Inspired by Spain’s Geography, Will Be Distributed to Pavilion’s Guests of Honour During the Expo

This weekend, on the occasion of Barcelona Olfaction Week, fragrance house Iberchem presented the official perfume of the Spain Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo. The event took place on a rooftop terrace in front of the Sagrada Familia, one of Spain’s architectural landmarks. The fragrance, created by Iberchem’s Head Perfumer Luz Vaquero, is one of the many projects Iberchem will be showcasing at the Dubai World Expo. For the first time in its history, the Spain Pavilion will benefit from a range of olfactory installations, outlining the importance of the fragrance industry in the country.

During the presentation, the perfumer revealed that her composition was inspired by the olfactory richness of Spain’s different landscapes: from the saltiness of the Mediterranean sea to the green and humid atmosphere of the northern forests, as well as the freshness of the citrus groves of the south and the sweetness of the grapes that can be found in the vineyards that spread across the country.

“The fragrance took almost three years to develop,” said Vaquero. “It is definitely one of the most challenging compositions I have ever made. To create a scent that embodies the geographical characteristics of a whole country was not an easy task. I am particularly proud of the result: a perfume that is vibrant, polished and colourful.”

A Sustainable Project

When creating the perfume, to reflect the themes both of the Expo and of the Pavillion, the main criterion was sustainability. From the ingredients to the packaging, the result is a product with a very low carbon footprint. More than 60% of the formula is biodegradable, local raw materials have been used whenever possible, solvents have been kept to a minimum and a wide variety of natural ingredients have been used that hold the COSMOS Ecocert certification.

As for the packaging, the cap uses the plastic-free technology Woork by Pujolasós, which is 100% natural and compostable. Furthermore, the box and label are made with FSC paper and do not require any adhesive.

Barcelona Olfaction Week is an international event to promote innovation in the perfumery industry innovation, the science of olfaction, and the world of beauty in general. It took place from May 29 to June 5, with a mix of virtual conferences and in-person events. It ended with the international “Mouillette d’Argent” perfumery contest. Perfumer Sandra Lucas, winner of last year’s People’s Choice Award, was among this year’s jury, alongside experts from the industry.
