Musk is a name that originally designates a strong-smelling brownish substance secreted by the male of the musk deer of the genus Moschus. Until the late 19th century, natural musk was extensively used in creation of perfumes before it became too much expensive and controversial. Luckily, there are some plants such as ambrette seeds that share similar olfactory properties with musk, capable to produce musky-smelling best known as white musk.
